After Indian Cricket Team’s loss in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, there are rumors about the BCCI keen for split captaincy for the team. Last week, the BCCI announced the squads for the upcoming West Indies tour. The squads for the three formats will be led by Virat Kohli, with Rohit Sharma as the deputy.
The two players from the Men in Blue never spoke about the issue, even the Committee of Administrators ignored the rumors. The CoA refused to address the issue because as far as they’re concerned, there’s nothing going on and if there is, then the duo should’ve talked about it with them to have it settled.
However, a recent social media activity sparked a new issue that adds fuel to the rumors about the rift between Kohli and Sharma. Rohit unfollowed his wife Anushka Sharma. Later on, Kohli’s wife posted a cryptic Instagram story read: “A wise man once said nothing. Only truth can shake hands with silence in a mess of false appearances…”
Regarding these events, there are reports about the BCCI of solving the problem between the captain and vice-captain that can affect the team. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri will fly to the United States to meet the duo to settle the differences between them.
A BCCI source spoke about these issues. "In today's age when support groups get involved, things can get messy. Both are mature individuals and things should be back on track after being spoken with,"
The Indian Cricket Team is scheduled to play two Twenty20 International matches against the West Indies on August 3 to 4 in Lauderhill, Florida. Then the team will fly to the West Indies for the third T20I in Providence Stadium in Guyana.
